My Piece
Matt
LeBlanc (03-20-02)
First and foremost, I want to say that Not for Profits in the United States
are a mess. And on the top of that list exploiting the system is the illegitimate
producing illegitimates while preaching about family Jesse Jackson. Jesse
Jackson does not hold a job, and yet he is a very wealthy man. Why is this;
because he claims not for profit status and uses money donated to his Rainbow
Coalition, a human rights organization, as his own personal money. And yet
under the law the hundreds of thousands of dollars that are spent as "personal
expenses" are completely legitimate. Excuse me if I am coming off as extra
harsh, because there are many good not for profit organizations that actually
spend their money responsibly, but unfortunately those who do not operate
in this manner are cheating the good people who donate their hard earned money
to what they think is a worthwhile cause, but instead goes to people such
as Jackson's personal piggy bank. Clearly this is a problem in the United
States, and it needs to be rectified.
It's Easter time which means those wonderful Cadbury Cream Eggs are back. I
can not express in words how much I love these eggs. Last year I was on a 4+
egg a day diet and my body went into shock when they were taken off the shelves.
This is not simply a chocolate fix, it is explicitly a cream egg fix. And I
am nothing but amused with all the imitations various chocolate companies have
tried. There was those nasty cream eggs that came in a four pack last year.
I don't remember what they were called but you cracked the egg, and the cream
inside tasted like broccoli, which i like, just not in chocolate. This year
Nestle has a whole line of eggs out, including a Peanut Butter and Jelly cream
egg. I have tried numerous Nestle eggs, and find myself thoroughly disappointed,
and in need of a Cadbury egg fast. The most disappointment comes from the Hershey
company though. While I usually have a high regard for Hershey, they are scamming
the public with their Reese's Egg. This egg is merely chocolate covering Reese's
peanut butter, same as the cups except this looks like human feces. The catch,
while this "egg" is smaller than the peanut butter cups (1.2 grams versus 1.6
grams), it costs on average 86 cents compared to 55 cents for the two cups.
This is a scam better suited for Michael
W. than myself, but I can assure you that after being duped once Hershey
was not able to get me again. The fine point of it is stick with the original,
there is nothing better than the Cadbury Cream Eggs, and I hope those commercials
with a lion dressed like a rabbit come on again soon because I do enjoy them.
You thought Limp Bizkit just played jerks in their videos and through their
songs, huh? Well guess what, it would appear they actually are jerks. Currently,
the band is embarking on a mission across the country for a new guitarist. The
plan: they hold auditions at Guitar Centers across the United States. So people
began lining up at Guitar Centers to audition for the band. People were told
that they would play some of their music, and then some finalists would be chosen
and they would play for the band, and one of those people would be chosen to
do a show at the Guitar Center with the band and also possibly become the next
guitarist of Limp Bizkit. Well, it turned out the band made everyone who played
sign a waver releasing the rights of anything they played to the band. So through
long lines people play their piece, but the catch is the band does not show
up at the Guitar Center, finalists are not picked, and the music is recorded
and sent to Limp Bizkit. The final result, Limp Bizkit owns hundreds of original
guitar pieces while scamming hundreds of people at every Guitar Center. Now
first of all, Guitar Center should have canceled everything after this happened
once, and they continued with it, which makes them crooks as far as I am concerned.
And for Limp Bizkit, I'm not sure there is any other possible way to show they
do not care about or for their fans at all, and rather have so little an appreciation
for them they would trick them into wasting a day of their life so the band
could secretly steal these good people's original guitar pieces. Want to retaliate?
Never acknowledge the presence of Limp Bizkit ever again.
What to watch at 10pm? This is certainly the dilemma for me now. Both Making
Sense with Alan Keyes on MSNBC and On the Record with Greta Van Susteren on
FOXNews are very good programs. Alan is clearly the better personality of the
two. He is more poignant, he makes better points, and his mix of his own opinion
with his moderating the guests is very unique and usually interesting whether
or not i agree. Greta is not as good a personality, and usually has trouble
making her point, but she is very personable, and is a great interviewer. Plus,
bringing many of her guests on set with her adds a nice dimension to the show.
They both have their pros and few cons. So to solve my dilemma I usually watch
based on which program's topics and guests appear more interesting. But I hope
Alan continues to have success because he might be what saves MSNBC. As for
Greta, how could she go wrong. She is on the hottest cable news network, and
hour behind the extremely popular O'Reilly, and preceding his rerun. She's come
a long way from OJ.
On a recent trip to Virginia, I saw a lot of Cows, and my conclusion is that
most humans opinion of them are all wrong. I do not believe they are dumb animals,
rather I think cows are very smart, but also possibly the most content animal
on the planet. Next time you see one, don't just stare at it's face, but look
closely into the animal's eyes, you will see what I mean.
We recently passed the 6 month anniversary of the September 11 attack, and while
I am not one to continue to revisit the incident, until recently I had remained
befuddled on the true reason they chose that day to attack. I believe the date
was more symbolic than most think, and in fact people around the world know
more about the history of the United States than most people in the Union actually
do. On September 11, 1777, the United States suffered their first major defeat
in battle when the British Army killed around 1,500 soldiers at Brandywine Creek.
Albeit this may simply be a coincidence; it seems the attackers were trying
to make September 11, 2001 the first major defeat in the new war they hoped
would bring the downfall of the United States.
Finally, a point of personal mishap I should bring up. In one of my pieces a
few months ago I attacked Kate Amara, and anchor at WMUR ABC 9 in Manchester,
NH. I made the unprofessional move of not only attacking her on air presence
but also her personally. I have recently received many e-mails from you all
scolding me for this, and claiming Kate is not self centered. Unfortunately
in my few interactions with her, she has appeared nothing short of self centered.
But I apologize for attacking her personally in this forum. While I do think
this is the place for criticism of the news media, it is not the place for criticism
of people behind the camera. I have learned from my mistake, and thank you all
for pointing it out. Truly you are the reason I am afforded the opportunity
to construct this column, and I appreciate and thank you for your feedback.
