The Case

Packaging is the issue this time around, with the illustrious National Biscuit Company, perhaps more familiarly known to you as Nabisco. In my spare time, I enjoy snacking on a wide variety of crackers and cookies, one of which is the subject of this complaint ... Nabisco's Swiss Cheese Snack Crackers.

I thoroughly enjoy being able to sit down before my TiVo and snack on some yummy munchies. However, it makes me quite angry when it requires the assistance of a commercial welder for me to permeate the packaging. Let's see if Nabisco can shape up and seal their crackers in a package that the average human (or above-average Consumer Advocate) can break into ....

To Whom It May Concern:

I have been an avid consumer of your cracker and cookie products for well over a decade now, and I have always been more than satisfied with the quality and taste of your products.

I wanted to write to you regarding an issue I’ve had with one of my favorites in your cracker line, Nabisco Swiss Cheese Snack Crackers. I have noticed, with multiple packages of these crackers, that the glue used to seal the inner bag is substantially stronger than that used for many of your other products, such as Wheat Thins. It is so strong, in fact, that I have rarely been able to open the crackers without tearing apart the entire inner bag. I certainly appreciate Nabisco’s desire to maintain the freshness of your product with an adequate seal, but this epoxy seems quite too strong for the application.

I hope that, in the future, you may be able to consider using a somewhat weaker adhesive that still insures the freshness of the crackers, but is much easier to open.

Thank you very much for your attention to this matter.

Sincerely,

Michael W.
